Smart women don’t stay in the corner of the office. 101 mistakes that women often make in the workplace. Lois P.Frankel,Ph. D. – Introduction (Dịch Việt-Anh)
As a professional trainer, my success and reputation depend on the success of my clients – those who can achieve career goals after working with me. In my first consultation with a new client, she told me, “I want this course to be more than just a happy memory. I want to get promoted.” Personally, I have collaborated with thousands of women through various seminars, individual consultations, or psychotherapy sessions for working women to guide them in acquiring the necessary skills to achieve career goals. I have also participated in many high-level seminars for both genders and discussed the job opportunities of thousands of other people. This book accumulates all my experience gained in nearly 25 years of working as a human resources consultant and a psychotherapist. The book also addresses many mistakes that women often encounter when working, many of which are caused by themselves, hindering their ability to maximize their potential. Additionally, the book provides many suggestions to help them pay more attention to their careers.
The mistakes discussed in the book are real, and they are accompanied by several examples (the names of the characters have been altered). The suggestions stated below every mistake are ones I’ve given to thousands of women around the world. afterward, many of them wrote to say that these suggestions had helped them get promoted, hired, get a raise, gain more trust from company management, and have enough confidence to start a new business. I measure the effectiveness of my work by the success of my customers.
So what should you do to know if the book is useful for you or not?
Read the following 10 statements and honestly indicate which ones apply to you the most:
💙Most people consider me a professional.
💙I have a reputation as a trustworthy person.
💙Everyone knows I am decisive.
💙People have commented that I am competent.
💙Whenever I speak, people note that I am intelligent.
💙I am always comfortable with my frankness.
💙My way of expressing myself gives the impression that I speak clearly and coherently.
💙I am very wise when it comes to working in an office.
💙I am very confident in myself.
💙My actions show that I know how to present myself.
After reading the 10 statements, you should write the results in a separate notebook. I realize that these 10 statements are very important for the success of everyone (both genders) and are also a field that women often care about in training sessions. Most of the female clients I train do not need to meet all 10 factors, but they should clearly identify two or three mandatory statements in order to achieve success in their careers.
During the process of writing this book, I happened to discuss some related opinions about the book with a client who has been collaborating with me for nearly six months. She said simply, “Why don’t you tell readers what you told me?”. I smiled at her advice. My client was right. I have given valuable advice to women of different ages and at different stages of their careers for over 25 years. Anyway, smart women will not be in the corner of the office.
For nearly 25 years, from physical therapy rooms to conference rooms, I have listened to many women say that they were overlooked for promotions and were willing to soften their anger whenever they expressed their opinions. I have also observed how women behave in meetings. Their actions and reactions to specific situations are a common causes of being overlooked by their superiors. I have listened and realized that their behavior unintentionally reduces their credibility and undermines their careers. No one but themselves is responsible for this.
