About TOEIC

TOEIC, which stands for Test of English for International Communication, is composed of two primary sections: Listening and Reading. The Listening section assesses a person’s ability to comprehend spoken English, while the Reading section evaluates knowledge of grammar, vocabulary, and the ability to read and understand brief texts.

The TOEIC exam contains a total of 200 questions and has a duration of approximately 2 hours. Each question is in multiple-choice format, offering three or four possible answers. The chart below provides an overview of the test structure as of May 2006.

Organization of the TOEIC

Section I: Listening Test – Questions: 100 – Time: 45 minutes
In this section of the test, you will have the chance to show how well you understand spoken English. There are four parts to this section, with special directions for each part.
Part I: Picture Description – 10 questions
Part II: Questions and Responses – 30 questions
Part III: Short Conversations – 30 questions
Part IV: Short Talks – 30 questions

Section II: Reading Test – Questions: 200 – Time: 1 hour 15 minutes
In this section of the test, you have a chance to show how well you understand written English. There are three parts to this section, with special directions for each part.
Part V: Incomplete Sentences – 40 questions
Part VI: Incomplete Texts – 12 questions
Part VII: Reading Comprehension – 48 questions
